This Special Release Pikachu Promo Seeks to Be Super Effective On Speculators

To celebrate the launch of the fascinating new book Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology, an exciting collaboration has been formed. Pokémon's creators alongside the Natural History Museum are opening a pop-up shop featuring exclusive items. Enthusiasts will find products like plush toys, art prints, and writing supplies all drawing from the institution's aesthetic. The big draw, however, is a specially made Pikachu card, offered as a free bonus at the pop-up. This shop is scheduled from the physical location to online from January 26 to April 19.

Pokécology That Inspires the Collaboration

Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology represents a highly anticipated tome packed with stunning illustrations that show creatures in their natural habitats. The concept is what an in-world scientist might publish after trainers provide field notes, or a naturalist's journal could have sketched if the famous islands were populated by flying-types rather than birds. A key appeal lies in the book's scholarly approach, treating Pokémon as a legitimate subject for inquiry. Author Yoshinari Yonehara and illustrator Chihiro Kinoshita each possess PhDs in animal behavior and ecology.

What Makes This Special Card Different

The company regularly to issue to release promos for big events or crossover partnerships. Many such promotional cards often feature the iconic electric rodent who serves as the franchise mascot. What distinguishes this new museum card is its unusually large dimensions. Although exact measurements have not been immediately shared, availability is guaranteed to be strictly limited, with fans able to get only a single card with each transaction.

Curbing Reseller Activity

Per a company announcement, a portion of the merchandise will also be sold outside the institution itself. But, a wider release is slated for specific stores within the UK. Importantly, collectors will not be able to acquire this promo through the official web shop. While reseller interest is inevitable, it appears they're going to have a difficult time stockpiling large numbers this time around. If you're feeling left out, consider the upcoming fossil-themed display coming to the Windy City in the coming months.

"All profits from purchases made in the Museum shop and its web shop, which covers these items, go toward the Natural History Museum’s charitable mission. That encompasses the efforts of 400 scientists dedicated to scientific inquiry and finding answers to the planetary emergency," the statement notes.
