The Renowned Musician Calls On Public Help to Propel Together for Palestine Lullaby to UK Christmas No 1.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to propel a traditional song from Palestine to the Christmas number one spot. The campaign hopes to deliver assistance to communities in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian cultural expression.
A Chance for Solidarity and an "Surprise Victory"
Composer and producer Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a moment to show solidarity with Palestinians this festive season. He acknowledged the potential for an unexpected chart success.
“That would be amazing if that occurred, yes,” he stated. “I wouldn't be completely let down if it doesn’t, festive releases are a thing unto themselves.”
Defiant Message of Self-Determination
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the version of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's powerful central theme.
“It has a profound significance for many individuals,” Barghouti said. “It’s basically saying that I would prefer a dignified death than live a life without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we desire to exist a dignified life that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Track's Background and Featured Artists
The single was laid down following a major charity concert held in the autumn. Originally intended to be performed and recorded live, the piece was shelved during the concert due to time constraints.
The impressive roster of musicians appearing on Lullaby encompasses a range of prominent voices from the music world. All participated in the September show, which managed to collect a substantial amount for relief efforts.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was produced by a trio of talented individuals. The track features a fusion of the original Arabic with new English lyrics.
The group managing the campaign have stated that their aim is to collect the highest amount for a specific fund. These donations will be channeled to Palestinian causes through an non-profit partner.
“We haven't set a fixed goal,” a figure commented. “We aim for whatever we can get. Obviously, the greater the amount, the better. Every penny goes out to those in need in Gaza.”
The context in the territory was described as its extreme devastation, with a vast majority of infrastructure described as destroyed or damaged.
“Given that reality, a handful of millions doesn’t make that much difference. But I think what does make a difference is primarily making this cause better known and demonstrating the human dimension of the story.”
The track is set to be released on Friday. Additionally, a complete film of the charity concert will be made ready to watch on a major video platform from the 19th of December.
