The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Signing for United
The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing is viewed as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League team.
Departure from Bayern was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. Per reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United appear to be building positive momentum.
Their recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional business:
- The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
