The acclaimed crime series Line of Duty is officially returning for its 7th installment, announced by the BBC.

A brand new six-part series written by the show's creator starts production in Northern Ireland in the coming months, according to the network.

The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, saying she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be reuniting together soon."

The previous season concluded in recent years with a finale that attracted more than 17 million viewers. Rumors about a potential return have been circulating ever since, but confirmation only arrived recently.

New Challenges for AC-12

The seventh season will open with AC-12 having been disbanded and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by production details.

Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings continue tasked to combat misconduct within the law enforcement.

Their work "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, these officers are assigned their "most delicate case to date."

Fresh Face and Intricate Plot

An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer known for takedowns of organized crime, faces allegations of misusing his authority to become a offender.

However, this investigation could be a intentional diversion from a larger danger still operating in the shadows, the teaser suggested.

In a statement, the creator commented: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."

"We're privileged to have had so many fans track the ups and downs of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be returning for a new season."

He added: "Corruption in this country was thought to be over while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been forced to use my creativity."

Actor Responses

The Scottish actor called appearing in the series as "a job of a lifetime".

"Not only the show's success but the colleagues I've worked with I now call dear friends."

"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he said.

Vicky McClure stated: "Obviously I'm so excited the show is returning! Can't wait to work with the creator, Martin and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"

The veteran actor noted: "As we count down the AC-12 return, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming soon."

"Delighted with the news and looking forward to those unexpected twists and turns."

Series Legacy

Line of Duty premiered in the early 2010s and became a highly successful TV dramas of the past ten years, featuring guest stars such as Lennie James.

Broadcasters haven't revealed when the upcoming series will hit screens.

The conclusion of series six brought the long-running storyline about the search for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a close, and producers indicated at the time there were no plans for additional seasons.

Nevertheless, the network confirmed on this week that a seventh series is now being produced.
