Canada's Blue Jays Claim World Series Matchup Against Los Angeles Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

Springer was instrumental for the Astros winning the championship in 2017.

Toronto's Blue Jays earned a spot in their initial Fall Classic following 1993 by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the final Game 7 of the ALCS.

Down by two runs, the star outfielder delivered a three-run home run in the seventh frame, leading the sole Canadian team in the majors to a 4-3 series win in the best-of-seven series. They will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers, holders of the current crown, in the forthcoming World Series.

"I'm thrilled for this squad, our city, the nation," Springer stated, a key player of the Astros team that secured the 2017 title. "This is such an amazing experience."

The veteran has now connected for 23 total October home runs, ranking him third in history trailing only Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Altuve (27).

"I can't think of another person on planet Earth that I want up in that spot except for George Springer with his October magic," noted manager John Schneider.

Seattle, after leading the early in the series, continue to be the sole team yet to make an appearance in a Fall Classic.

Mariners manager Dan Wilson stated "certainly that it's painful" following his side's defeat at Rogers Centre, but applauded their work in the campaign.

"This is a unique group. It's a shame that we had to come out on the losing end of this game," he added.

Toronto secured the championship on both previous visits in 1992 and '93, and will welcome the Dodgers in the first game on Friday.
