Individuals of an Italian clan of thieves who stole over £1.2 million worth of goods, among them from ex- NUFC forward Isak, have been ordered to pay back only £1 each.

Brothers Valentino and Giacomo, their female sibling Jela and her son Charlie Jovanovic travelled to the north-east of England to raid three houses in spring 2024.

The group of four were jailed for from six and 10 years in May 2025.

At a proceeds of crime proceeding at the court, Jela and the Nikolov brothers were instructed to repay £1 each while Charlie Jovanovic must pay over a thousand pounds.

Details of the Break-ins

The judge previously heard the gang arrived by boat in the United Kingdom on 27 March 2024 and used a RV as their "base of operations", which they stationed at a service area and Durham service service stations while using another car to scout out properties and carry out thefts.

On March 31 they took more than one million pounds of goods including high-end fashion, handbags, jewelry and a CBE medal from a house on a street in Jesmond, Newcastle, while the owners were on holiday.

The next evening, the gang entered a house on a private road in Whitburn, South Tyneside, and stole designer handbags, jewellery and footwear worth over one hundred thousand pounds.

After scouting out the football club's training ground for 48 hours, they then acted at the residence of Sweden striker Alexander Isak in Darras Hall on April 4, stealing ten thousand pounds in cash, sixty-eight thousand pounds worth of jewelry and the player's one hundred twenty thousand pound luxury car.

The gang, who were portrayed by prosecutors as professional touring thieves, wore hand coverings and face coverings, turned their phones off as they approached their objectives and attached a number plate, which had been taken from a garage in Chester-le-Street, on to their car with elastic bands.

They were arrested in the Birmingham on April 13.

Court Proceedings and Sentencing

Valentino Nikolov had denied conspiracy to burglary but was found guilty by the court, while his three relations had all entered admissions to the same charge.

At the proceeds of crime hearing, prosecutor Daniel Cordey said every one of the burglars had benefited from their crimes to the amount of over £1.2 million, which was determined by what the affected parties said they had had stolen.

But Charlie was the sole individual found to have any funds that could be "realised", specifically £1,135.50 which had already been seized by authorities, the judge heard, with two weeks to be served in prison if he defaulted.

The other three had no assets or assets so were ordered to make a token amount of £1 per person, with one week in incarceration the result if the sum was not submitted.

Judge Robert Spragg said if they were found with property in the coming years, "for example operating in Italy in a sports car or owning a property", prosecutors could seek new proceedings to "satisfy the sum outstanding".
